We got off to a slow start, and got hung in th midle a few times explaining things, but all in all it went pretty smoothly.
@Maelthra: It's been a busy day in Axis, as it normally is. At the end of the day, one of the most sought after places is the Tower's Edge. On the top of, or rather, beside one of the tallest towers in Axis,is a restaurant. THe view is unparalleled. THis is for one quite simple reason. You sit on the side of the tower, looking down at the city. It's all prefectly safe of course, and they're slow fall emenrgency spells in place. Still, it's filled mostly with wizards and sorcerors, an occassional bard. Most of the rest of the population distrust this arrangement greatly. ((did that cut off? Euhorei: (yes, after emergency spells) The_Chef: (after emenrgency spells in ) @Maelthra: ... in place. Still, it's filled mostly with wizards and sorcerors, an occassional bard. Most of the rest of the population distrust this arrangement greatly. The food is magnificent. It is also exceedingly difficult to get a reservation. However, around mid-day, after lunch, every one of you recieves a missive, reminding you of your reservation. The reservation is for seven o'clock. You're sure you didn't make it, but a meal here is not something that's lightly passed up. Someone -important- had to have done this. The_Chef: "Heh, that's great! A chance to try that famous kaldish goat stew." @Maelthra: If is now five minutes until seven, and you're all shown to your table, It happens to be the -same- table. The_Chef: tried to shake the hands of everybody present "Greetings friends! The name's Ishmael, but everybody calls just me Chef" @Maelthra: There are four of you, and five seats. Nauvan: "it seems I wasn't the only one invited...Does anyone know why we were all invited here?" @Maelthra: ((introduce yourselves, take a moment to talk. I'll move on in a moment)) Nauvan: looks at Ishmael...the Chef quizzically The_Chef: "Who cares? The food here is amazing! " "You have got to try the eblenian pudding, it's to die for." Euhorei: Euhorei has reserved the better green and gold robes for the occasion, there's a sure chance to run into higher-up faculty members here. The long-faced elf with a thin black beard cordially greets everyone else. Nauvan: "I am called Nauvan, er nice to meet you" Tzicora: Tzicora greets the wait staff cordially as she is led to the table. She almost looks human, her skin a reddish brown shade of clay and her eyes softly glowing gold orbs. She is wearing a ornate leather coat and is playing with a couple dice with her left hand. Euhorei: "Ah yes, the pudding. Some good culinary magic there." The_Chef: "And that's the best kind of magic there is" Nauvan: is a tall tanned leather skinned human male who appears to have spent a great deal of time in the backwoods of the world but still is familiar with the ways of the urban jungle" The_Chef: pats his large belly and laughs Tzicora: "Ahh. I see I have company this evening. How curious." @Maelthra: There is a flicker in the fifth chair as the other four are filled. A light mist fills the chair. "Good evening." Nauvan: stands up when Tzicora approaches the table..."Indeed" The_Chef: "Ah yes, come friends, sit and dine with us" Nauvan: "Good evening..I take you are responsible for inviting us all here?" The_Chef: "Oh, no no no.. I'm just here enjoying myself" Nauvan: "I was talking the mist in the fifth chair" The_Chef: smiles broadly, and then takes another big bite out of his chicken leg Nauvan: to Tzicora: Tzicora take a moment to scan the location the takes a seat facing away from the doors, "I expect this will be interesting." Nauvan: points to the fifth chair @Maelthra: "I am responsible," the mist says. It's unclear if it's supposed to be male or female. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there in person, but things have been rather busy as of late." The_Chef: jumps, surprised to see the mist in the chair The_Chef: "Oh my, how odd." Euhorei: "Whom do we owe this honor?" @Maelthra: "Euhorei, you are there, or a relaive at least. That's good to see." Euhorei: stays patient for the answer and just nods. Tzicora: Tzicora looks to Euhorei, studying him for future reference. @Maelthra: "There is a great danger arising. The Lich King's power has been waning for some time. Baron Voth - you remember that delightful murderer, don't you? - has found a way to transfer the Lich King's power to himself." Euhorei: starts. "This was not to be expected at all." The_Chef: sort of shrugs "Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later." Tzicora: Tzicora snorts and places her dice in her pocket, "I am not sure my standard rates cover demi-gods." Nauvan: "Surely this a joke and a bad one at that. It would be nigh impossible for one such as him to gain that much power" @Maelthra: "It means that the Crown is no longer safe in his possession. If you're hearing this, and I hope you are, then I've failed in retrieving it. Most likely I'm in Roachdale again. Or dead." "If you're not, then I've just scared a random group of diners, my apologies." The_Chef: mutters, mostly to himself "Eww, Roachdale... That's a bad place, I'm never going there again.." Euhorei: leans slowly back, brow furrowed in thought, stroking his beard. Euhorei: "After all we did, this wasn't supposed to happen at all. Who has helped the bastard so?" Tzicora: "Perhaps you could further enlighten us on this issue?" She says to Euhorei. @Maelthra: "Anyway, the people sitting around teh tabel were the best I could find. After my group of course. Hopefully you can succeed where I couldn't. He's probably feeling safe now, at least." The voice changes to a young woman's, and the mist swirls to form a three-pronged saw-blade. "Message ends. THank you for choosing TriD Missives for all your long-range magical communication needs!" *poof* The_Chef: looks up from his meal and looks at the others around the table "So... The mist called you the best. The best... what, exactly?" Nauvan: "Well that wasn't enigmatic at all" Euhorei: smiles shortly and his thin gaze darts around, stops at Tzicora. "The baron continues the fine Voth tradition of plotting against the Empire, time and time again!" Nauvan: "I would imagine the best at what unique skills we all bring to the table....so to speak" Euhorei: "Quite." The_Chef: "Evasive, eh? Well then, keep your secrets if it suits you." Tzicora: Tzicora smirks, "Well then my tradition is this. When you have a problem then the first thing is to find someone to pay you for solving it." @Maelthra: A waiter comes by just then. "Sirs, madam? The food is on the house tonight, Mr. Urner's compliments." The_Chef: "And the wine?" @Maelthra: "That as well." The_Chef: "Ah! Well then, more manarian spiced wine for me and my friends." @Maelthra: The crown is enormously valuable. Priceless. There would be no shortage of offers for it if you manage to get ahold of it. "Right away sir." Euhorei: "The person speaking through the mist was one of my associates... his remains contain crucial information. He was on the Archmage's payrolls and entrusted this 'gig' (as I believe you'd put it) to us. I believe you can do the addition." Euhorei: doesn't notice the waiter. Nauvan: "Well Ishmael, I know you mentioned that you hate Roachdale but that is our first clue and where we may be heading off to very soon" @Maelthra: So we know that Chef has been to roachdale. Has anyone else been there? Tzicora: (Probably not!) Chef: "Oh, I didn't say I hated the place. It's just... just not the best of places to visit..." Nauvan: "I've never had pleasure or nodding to Chef...the displeasure of visiting the place" @Maelthra: Chef, tell us something about Roachdale that you remember from your visit. Euhorei: sits up to listen. Chef: "Let me share some travelling advice. You need to be careful with your footware when you go to Roachdale. Sometimes things get a bit disgusting..." "I'm not gonna give you any more details. After all, we're eating right now..." "Just... Just be careful.." Euhorei: "As you wish. We can talk more about it once on the read." Chef: "Oh! And one more thing. Don't eat the roasted boar there, it's not actually boar." @Maelthra: And so the conversation continues. We won't take time to go into everything, but eventually terms are settled up that are agreeable to all, even if it takes contacting one of the Archmage's senechals to get assurance of a reward. Nauvan: ((me can only imagine)) @Maelthra: I do need everyone to roll their relationship dice. 1d6 per point of relationship, we only care about 5's and 6's. Tzicora: #roll 1d6 Chef: #roll 3[1d6] HD, P, E Tzicora: #roll 2d6 Euhorei: relationship to the archmage, I suppose? @Maelthra: ((all relatiobships ((I don't know how to use the diceroller btw Chef: a 6 for the Priestess for me :) Tzicora: #roll 2[1d6] Euhorei: (A, A, LK:) #roll 3[1d6] Tzicora: Okay. Nauvan: "this is good chickem" @Maelthra: Or possibly sooner! Euhorei: dun dun dun @Maelthra: You're about an hour away from Rochdale now, and you can already smell it. It smells like every single place in the empire that has sewers, leases their smell fromRoachdale. Nauvan: (massive scene wipe :D)) @Maelthra: And Roachdale's still overstocked. Euhorei: 's elfen travel cloak is luckily impervious to getting smelly Euhorei: (but it probably won't survive that well while swimming in muck.) Nauvan: "The wonderful stench of civilzation" Euhorei: "Good heavens." Tzicora: Tzicora covers her nose with a small scarf around her neck, "Perhaps the whole town is a corpse?" Nauvan: "Reminds me why I try to avoid cities" @Maelthra: You're coming around a fork in the road when, from the other fork, a group of about 10 serpentine creatures nearly run into you. Along with them is a quite large thing, looking like a small mech, only standing about twice as tall as a human, but grown from steelwood. Immediately the leader hisses and draws back, and there are immediately bows pointed in your direction. Euhorei: "I was starting to think nobody could live here. Not the warmest welcome, though..." Nauvan: "Really, is this how you react when meeting new people?" Chef: "Greetings friends! The name's Kurgan, but everybody calls just me Chef" @Maelthra: Give me a let's be friends check, Chef. Nauvan: "I thought your name was Ishmael?' Chef: shushes Nauvan @Maelthra: Remember, you get to choose what to roll (sd20+Stat+Background). Just say what it is ahead of rlling. Tzicora: Tzicora steps forward and makes an obscure hand signal to the serpentine creatures, to see of they recognize it. Chef: (How about 100 Cities & 100 Dishes, for being well-travelled and being familiar with a lot of customs?) @Maelthra: okay (d20+stat+level+background. Chef: #1d20+3+2+3 Nauvan: ((is that a wisdom or int roll)) Chef: #roll 1d20+3+2+3 Nauvan: ((nice)) @Maelthra: Well, the leader immediately apologises, although you can't understand him still, and waves the others to put their bows down. Now lets see if they understand the gestures. Tzicora: (I probably can understand them having Linguist?) @Maelthra: Probably, yes. Chef: turns to the rest of the group "Calm down, they're not going to hurt us, and we're not gonna hurt them" @Maelthra: AT least rudimentarily. Chef: (I have Linguist too) @Maelthra: They say, haltingly, that they are about to launch an assault on Roachdale, to try to free their cheiftain. Tzicora: #roll 1d20+2+5+1 @Maelthra: They have little chance of succeeding, they know, but he is their cheiftain. Perhaps, if you're going to Roachdale, you could free him? Nauvan: ((Is this a serious threat or a aw ain't that cute kind of thing?)) @Maelthra: They could likely inflict some damage, yes. Chef: turns to the serpentine creatures "Oh, I'm sorry, but I could help but overhear your conversation. You are going to Roachdale, yes?" Chef: "Might we be of some assistance?" Tzicora: (I rolled Int+my background which I haven't figured out yet. Hehe) Euhorei: (( I don't know if I should have Linguist or not ^^ )) @Maelthra: They confirm this again. ALthough they'd rather not They are uslaly a peaceful tribe, and would likely lose several of their tribe in the assault. Chef: smiles a friendly smile @Maelthra: Think Yuan-ti, but smaller, btw Euhorei: nudges Chef. "Ask them the important... free the chief from *what*...?" Nauvan: "Or what's he's in for?" @Maelthra: He ws imprisoned by Baron Voth. Euhorei: (( I suppose Spy 3 should include knowing languages. )) @Maelthra: The Baron doesn't alwayshave reasons. He may have walked too close. Euhorei: "Good Lord... imprisoned in the Necropolis?" @Maelthra: No, they saym, in Roachdale. Chef: "That's almost as bad..." @Maelthra: The leader also adds that if you can free him, he will give you his family's sword. Euhorei: 's grip of adrenaline on chef's shoulder loosens Chef: "Oh no, that's not neccessary." Nauvan: "Well maybe we can bail him out" "Did they send a ransom?" @Maelthra: They have heard nothing since he was taken. Chef: knows it to be rude to take the first offer of payment Euhorei: "Indeed. As an incredible coincidence, we happen to have a bone to pick with His Grace." Small smile, stroke beard. Nauvan: "Chef where would they keep him?" @Maelthra: THe leader insists that he could not -not- reward you if you mamnage to free him. it would save the lives of several of their warriors. Chef: "Well, then. If you insist then I would be honored to accept such a fine gift." Nauvan: "Keep your cool...we'll help" Nauvan: offers him a cookie @Maelthra: The leader accepts it, not knowing what to do with it.m, and so puts it in his pocket. Nauvan: takes out another cookie and shows it to the leader...then places it in mouth, chews then swallows Euhorei: reminisces the classes he once took , trying to remember details about this curious snake race. @Maelthra: ((sorry for speeding through bits, occassionally, but I don't want to leav it hangin gin the middle.)) The serpents say they'll wait in the trees until you return, and back off. As you continue on, you leave the the forest and you see a ruined black stone keep squatting atop a hill. Surrounding the hill is what you at first take to be a lake or moat but as you get closer you see that the hill is encircled by nothing less than a huge open sewer. Euhorei: (( encircled by no -- )) (( I like speeding, let's keep it an epic adventure ^^ )) @Maelthra: nothing less than a huge open sewer. And there are things moving in that vile mess. long undulating tentacles move just beneath the surface. Chef: "Would you look at that. Kinda reminds me of dirian squid soup." Euhorei: steps off his horse and hunches down to get a good peer at all the disgusting junk. "Oh, this is really my favourite." turns to the others. "We are looking for a half-orc, presumed dead." -- "I do hope he's identifiable in *some* way..." Nauvan: brings out Wisdom his familiar to scope out the area Euhorei: "Capital idea." Euhorei shakes his sleeve and Anita the owl flies out to join Wisdom. @Maelthra: Wisdom blinks as he's take out of his small cage. "What, morning already? It's only been a week! I'm still sleepy." He sleepily hoots. Euhorei: ( Anita is more professional about the whole thing :) ) @Maelthra: Anita blinks at Wisdom. "-Who- are you? No, never mind. What are we doing?" Tzicora: (Eek.) Nauvan: "Time for work and a bit of stealthy silence my friend....scope out the keep over yonder would you?" @Maelthra: Wisdom: "If I must. Do you have any cookies?" Anita is already off. Nauvan: http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4968951826287053&w=103&h=103&c=8&pid=3.1&qlt=90 BEHOLD WISDOM Euhorei: :D @Maelthra: Not http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1143173/thumbs/o-POTOO-FUNNY-BIRD-570.jpg?6 ? Euhorei: (( I didn't find a bearded elf. :( )) Chef: (( http://lounge.moviecodec.com/images/attachment/httpimg2blogcucomimagesavaavatarzuzuzukoiroh4jpg-3081.jpg )) @Maelthra: Wisdom flies off too. Soon they're back. Anita reports first. "Several groups of guards! Look demonic! Possible mage, but hard to tell." Wisdom reports next. "THose things are so weird looking! We won't have to fight those, will we?" http://www.barnorama.com/wp-content/images/2012/03/potoo_bird/03-potoo_bird.jpg Chef: (( what kind of beard Euhorei? )) Nauvan: Here you go....and one for you Anita" Euhorei: "Well done old friend... Any indication where the prisons are? " Euhorei also had a cookie for Anita, but obviously the Chef had better ones! @Maelthra: Anita stares at the cookie. "That wpould take 2% effecieny away from my flight." Nauvan: "Ok, name your reward" @Maelthra: They report that the prison -is- the keep, guarded by a set of demons. Nauvan: goes through his mental catalog of known demon species to identify them by description Euhorei: (( Sorry, Nauvan had the cookies. I'ts getting a bit late ^^ )) (( Chef, long and thin, black )) @Maelthra: However, the also report there appears to be no way across the moat. Chef: "So, what did these demons look like?" Nauvan: "Hmm that will be a problem" @Maelthra: roll a rolly roll to identify! Euhorei: (( small moment afk )) Nauvan: #roll 1d20+7 magic genius Chef: ponders ways to get across the moat @Maelthra: You get that some of them are imps. It's hard to say about the others though. Does anyone have a plan for getting across the moat? Chef: (( I'm working on one )) @Maelthra: ((wibbles Cass! Nauvan: "I have some rope and a grappling hook" Chef: "I'd rather fell a tree and walk across that." Nauvan: "Maybe we can create a large enough distraction so we can scale the moat" Euhorei: ( How wide is the moat, and how tall are the walls above it? ) @Maelthra: Walls are probably a good thirty feet or so. Moat is maybe 30 or 40 feet wide. Chef: turns to Nauvan "You don't happen to have a boat in your pocket, would you?" @Maelthra: There -is- a boat on the other side. Nauvan: "Sorry no..but maybe we can bring the boat here" Chef: "As long as we don't end up getting shot at, sure." @Maelthra: Cassie, yuo're trying to figure out a way across this moat of poo. Euhorei: "I don't suppose impersonating a devilish jailor would be too easy either." Nauvan: "Wisdom...one more little job for you...fly across the moat and untie that boat" "Then hook this rope and grapple hook on to it...okay" @Maelthra: "I can maybe untie it, but thats too heavy. Nauvan: "Maybe you and Anita together then?" Nauvan: then turns towards the group....anyone have a bow or a crossbow?" Euhorei: peers at the boat's vicinity for any guards. @Maelthra: There are none about. Euhorei: rolls his eyes and thinks, "Amateurs." Euhorei: turning to Nauvan, "30-40ft. is well in throwing range, I should think?" @Maelthra: Try it if you like! Nauvan: ((who has the highest ST?...not I)) @Maelthra: Have to try soimething, afte all. Euhorei: (( I presume we have waited for it to get a little dark ;) )) @Maelthra: you can if you like! Nauvan: ((Wisdoom...:D was successful then?)) @Maelthra: Yes, he unties it, he just can't carry that iron hook. Euhorei: "I propose the cover of darkness... and the strongest to toss the hook and rope!" Chef: "Sounds like a good plan." @Maelthra: also, you -do- have the highest strength. but it's not neccesarily a strength check. Nauvan: (:O) Nauvan: waits Chef: (( I might manage a +4 throw with my handman skills)) Euhorei: raises his hands. "I'm just a weak academic." annoying smile. Nauvan: ((dusk yet?)) Chef: (( I'm sure Nauvan could magic it over pretty easily)) @Maelthra: Anyone with cantrips can use Mage han. *hand Chef: (I've thought about that, there is no range indicated on it) Euhorei: (( They can?? :D )) @Maelthra: It's generally just a reasonable distance. Chef: (and if anybody is gonna do that, it would be our magic genius) Euhorei: (( I'll go put something in the oven quickly while you reach a conclusion :) )) ((back)) Chef: ((I can mage hand it if you'd like, but I've only got a +6 maybe)) @Maelthra: Someone should decide something quickly before you're noticed hanging around. YOu don't really need to roll to use mage hands. Chef: ((fine, I'll do it then)) @Maelthra: describe what that looks like when you do it. If you can do cantrips, they're pretty much effortless. Meanwhile while this is all going on, you can hear screams and moans echoing out from the keep where someone is apparently having much more fun than someone else. Euhorei: hopes it is not Urner, the half-orc. Nauvan: reaches out with his senses to latch on to the grapple and rope and with a way of his hand directs them to the boat...the rope float in air until it reaches the boat and the hook latches to the boat hook Chef: The hook falls short a bit, but just as it almost touches the water it stops it's downward decent and flies straight towards the boat before landing gently inside it. Using the cover of the evening darkness, the Chef sneaks up to the water front. He pulls out the rope and hook, swings it around a bit and lets it fly. @Maelthra: Once it's hooked onto the boat, it's short work pulling it back to you. the oars lay on the inside, ready for use. YOu'll still have to be careful getting across the moat with those tentavcles going, but it isn't impossible. Nauvan: (( this could get interesting)) @Maelthra: How will you avoid the tentacles? Or will you just not bother and be ready to repel latchers on? Nauvan: "Wisdom...stay here until we're across" Euhorei: pats Chef on back and whispers, "well done colleague..." Euhorei: "I propose we stay very, very quiet while on water." Nauvan: (Prepare to repel borders) @Maelthra: Euhorei, give me a staying quiet roll! Nauvan: prepares Thundering thunderbolt clasp @Maelthra: (( Wizards. >__> "Let's be as quiet as we can. Chef: #roll 1d20+2+2+2 @Maelthra: You're not quite as quiet as you could have been, and a tentacle locates you, but Nauvan launches off his spell. However, it's not effective. Why didn't your spell work, Nauvan? Nauvan: "hmm. immune to electricity?" "Maybe a little ice" @Maelthra: They are immune to electricity. Unfortunately, the moat is not. Chef: (are we going to do a proper fight with initiative?) @Maelthra: ((yes. Is the resulting problem bad for everyone, or really bad for one person, Nauvan? Nauvan: ((did I just set the moat on fire?)) @Maelthra: ((possibly Chef: ((thunderclaps cause fire?)) @Maelthra: he used a lightning spell. Euhorei: (( :----D )) Nauvan: ((just me)) @Maelthra: #roll 2d6 Theres a sudden explosion that launches the boat up against the shore, and throws Nauvan up against teh wall. He takes 7 damage. Nauvan: "OW" @Maelthra: However, you're on the shore now. Just a few yards away is a moon gate, and from the looks of things, it isn't locked. Nauvan: "It wasn't supposed to work that way" Euhorei: dusts off himself. "whatever works, I suppose", he says not a little testily. Euhorei: (( explain again what a moon gate is? :D )) @Maelthra: It's just a small gate set into the castle wall. There were usually a few of them. THey were called moon gates because as the year goes around teh moon comes up behind a different gate. Euhorei: peers toward the filthy water, awaiting tentacles... Nauvan: gets the gate open..waiting for the others @Maelthra: Nothing comes out. It might be immune to electricity, but it probably isn't immune to it -and- fire. Euhorei: nods with some satisfaction. "good, now it's time to really hurry up...!" @Maelthra: Inside the gate, about 20 yards away, is the door to the keep. And sure enough there are 2 imps there. THere;s also two other creatures, shadows almost. Chef: mage hands over the rope to Nauvan "Here, pull us over." Nauvan: ((Poo water and electricity not a good combination)) ((shadow almost....)) Euhorei: (( sorry I didn't understand the shadow bit )) @Maelthra: The two other creatures are little more than shadows, or so it appears. Everyone is on shore now. You could try this gate, or look for another entrance. This one is pretty convenient though Nauvan: "we got two imps and some shadows" Nauvan: says to the others once they're ashore Chef: "And?" Nauvan: "that's it...door to the keep is just past them Euhorei: "There is no way the demons haven't noticed that something's off! We should clear the shortest route." @Maelthra: That's a good point, and, even as you say that, the drawbridge starts lowering, imps coming out to see what's caught the moat on fire, and trying to put it out. The only demons left inside are those four in front of you. Chef: "So... Any battle plans?" Euhorei: stands straight. "I say: charge" Euhorei: + ! Nauvan: "Bum rush 'em?" "I guess that's a yes" @Maelthra: If you're attacking, roll initiative. Euhorei decided to charge, so he and one other of his choice. actually no him and chef, chef has highest init so yeah, Chef, you're up. Chef: will stay back and Gather Power @Maelthra: THe way movement works here is you're either faraway, nearby, por engaged. So Chef starts to build power. Euhorei? Chef: "Hit them in the flanks" Euhorei: starts conservatively, trying to see what they're made of! He fires away some magical bolts at the nearest imp.
