The dwarves were the first race to live in the Covenant lands, which they called Terenreloi*, and their kingdoms spanned the continent. As other races appeared, or arrived from other lands, the dwarves retreated, until they could only be found in one place: the vast underground maze of a mine that was Stalassokalven**. The city was carved out of the earth over three millennia as the dwarves pulled away from the other races. The original mine works are not even recognisable as such now, having developed rivers and an ecology of it's own. The city itself is a jumble of structures built on on top of another from both the floor and ceiling of the monstrous cavern. It is here that the dwarven king, Kharrik reigned for nearly five-hundred years. It was also here that the Wayfinders got their start helping workers find their ways through the mine, and then later, the city.
Stalassokalven was not disturbed much by the Sky Wars. The Storm King was never able to locate the dwarven throne king, but the dwarves' economy was wrecked, and as a result, the dwarves joined the Covenant, smuggling ore and money west to Blackvale in preparation for the counterattack.
As the war went on, dwarven operations became extremely important to the war effort, and so with the war over, dwarves are finding more and more reasons to go out into the wider world. Stalassokalven is still the capital, but most commerce now originates from its new sister city, Geotakalven.
