Before the Sky Wars, Branastrova* was the capital of Interal, a kingdom spanning from the center of the continent out along the southern shore, the largest kingdom in Covenant lands. Branastrova was attacked by the Storm King three times, but withstood the attack each time. In was not until the Storm King destroyed Branastrova's water source that the city capitualted.
For centuries, an underground lake at the southern edge of the mountains had been Branastrova's greatest asset. In times of war, the lake was an untouchable source of water that fed a large river that flowed into the western sea. The river fed travel and commerce until the Storm King's magic broke the floor of the lake, draining it in three days. The river, without anything to feed it, dried up soon after, and when the Storm King followed this up by poisoning the land on which Branastrova grew its crops, the city fell.
Now, after the Sky Wars are over, Branastrova is trying to pick itself back up, but the huge river that was it's main connection with the world is now only navigable in the spring, when the runoff from the nearby mountains fills it up. The rest of the year, the city stands in the middle of a barren desert. It's saving grace is that while water travel is no longer reliable, air travel is becoming common, and Branastrova, in the center of the continent, holds a prime position to become the major hub for anyone traversing Covenant lands.
