OverviewWhen the rift on Penglai Mountain opened, at first nothing but mist came through. But it kept coming, and kept coming, until the entire island was covered. Upon investigation, the Chinese team that landed on the island that held the mountain were greeted with fog and whispers. Soon, word spread that the ancestors of China were in the mists, and as those from other countries started arriving, they were similarly greeted by by the mists. When China tried to take possession of the mountain, eight warriors walked out of the mist, decimated the Chinese force, and walked back into the fog.
A new religion sprang up, moving people from worship of long-dead, silent ancestors to reborn family in the mists. As people began following their ancestors' advice, age-old feuds ended, and the region united, money flowing toward the caretakers of Penglai. The question remains though, are those visiting the islands truly communicating with their ancestors? Or is there something more insidious lurking the mists? |
FriendsThose who worship Horai are mostly indifferent to the outside world. However, not everyone who lives in the areas controlled by Horai is a worshiper, and many would like to forge alliances outside of the area with those who can tell them what's really going on.
EnemiesThere are those who would like to use the mists of Horai for their own purposes, and Horai's worshipers are on constant defense against incursions. Unseen during peaceful times, nothing less than lethal force is used by the Immortals against those who mean the island harm.

Immortals
Although they have only been seen twice, the Immortals, as they've come to be known, are claimed to be the reincarnation of oriental heroes. they do not make this claim for themselves, for they never speak, but given that their form is never the same twice, it is entirely possible that the power behind the Mists is working it's way down some sort of ethereal roster. |
The Mists
The Mists of Horai guide their worshipers, letting them speak with their ancestors in order to show them the correct path. Unlike the Eternal Dream, they give direct advice, although their advice is not infallible. |
The Mountain
Those who climb to the highest peak of Horai are said to be able to speak with the Mountain itself, and learn from it. But the histories it speaks of are not histories of this world, and the lessons it teaches are frightening. |
