To the north and east of the Ten Kingdoms, the land grows harsh, and refuses to grow anything without extreme effort. The land is bare of resources as well. Legend tells of a great cataclysm known as The End of Ages, which sundered the world and devastated the lands now known as the Great Wastes. The terrain varies from desert to exposed karst, and then to tundra and glaciers, all of it harsh and forbidding.
Two races have been found to make their homes in The Great Wastes: Goblins, and the Qunari. Goblins are reckless explorers and tinkerers, and sift through the ancient ruins of the Wastes to find ancient devices that can be used to their advantage. Qunari are just the opposite, eschewing all technology and magic, choosing to live with only the basic necessities, forging strength from the wilderness.
Shurrenkol, apparently related to the old elven word for demon, is carved on various stones around this fallen monument. It depicts a female figure, and probably stood nearly 500 feet tall when upright. Erosion was likely the culprit for the fall of the statue.
The spire dome of Turta Donija. The first explorers who found this place were excited by what appeared to be a city built in the middle of the rock spires, but upon venturing inside, they claimed to be beset by undead. The name is taken from an inscription on one of the tallest buildings, "Mal ar turtan ic donija--," which translates in an ancient form of trade speak to 'here fell the last [ruler?]'
The Halls of Hauthra. An ancient kingdom, that was apparently built without regard to ease of traversing. The passages wind every which way, and many believe that the entire city is simply a trap for unwary robbers, but whatever it guards remains unknown.
