The Seven
On Verdas, seven civilisations arose.
For millenia, various wars raged between the first six civilisations on Verdas. Alliances shifted, treaties were broken, new ones formed, and everyone accepted this as the natural order of things. No one is even sure after all this time what the original causes were, but more than likely, it was resources, or land, as it always is. All of this came to a head though, in the final war between the Group of Three (The Thri-Kreen, Stonekin, and Mataca) and the Concord (The Dromites, Kenku, Tieflings, and Verdan-Kai). With the Concord outnumbered, out-manoeuvred, and at the brink of collapse, the Teiflings approached the others in the Concord with a solution: The Shade.

The End of WarThe Shade was to be a weapon so fierce, that not only would it remove the threat of the other races, it would remove the very existence of the other races, not just from the present, but it would reweave the strands of time so that the Group of Three would never have existed at all. Despite the life-aligned Verdan-Kai's protests, the others moved ahead with their plan, and on the eve of capitol's fall, the Concord prepared to launch their weapon.
The dragons had had inklings of what was to come for some time, but inner squabbling pushed it aside. However, when the final decision was made to use The Shade, they rallied together, deciding that their existence was more important than their infighting. They swore unity, and raced to the Concord's capital
The Dragon Pact appeared over the city, one of each flight, and prevented the weapon from being fully attuned, just in time. Unfortunately, the weapon had been activated, and it since it could not be attuned to the Group of Three, it started ripping at the fabric of reality around it, pulling anything in, removing them from existance. A single Verdan-Kai mage rushed to action, slipping past the dragons to attune the machine to himself. Suddenly the Verdan-Kai were gone, and in their place another race stood, the Shadar-Kai
The Dragon Pact came in force then, and laid waste to the seven kingdoms, until their rulers finally agreed to the terms of the Dragon Pact. The kingdoms were not allowed to wage war, and the dragons would protect them, and provide justice. Armies were dissolved, seige weapons dismantled, and there were three generations of peace.
Then the Imperium arrived.
