OverviewThe Ajir are a race of long-lived avian beings, mostly peaceful. Thousands of years ago, the Ajir were the undenied rulers of their world and when rifts began to open they visited many worlds. They shared freely with those they visited, and many pre-historical civilisations had their start in thanks to the Ajir.
Like all things, though, it did not last. Humans grew jealous of the Ajir's power and threw off their guidance, going so far as to slay the Ajiran ambassador. In response, the Ajir removed their presence from this world. However, since the rift to Earth was still exposed, the Ajir left a guard, stationed just outside the rift, to prevent any entering Ajira itself. When the rift finally began to close, the guard returned home. When the rifts began to re-open, they began to visit Earth again, and offered their protection to the people near the rift as long as they obeyed Ajiran law. Despite their wings, not all are able to fly, although they can at least glide. Only the most powerful wings can fight against the gravity of Earth. Recently however, there have been odd fluctuations in the Earth's crust around Eden, and strange rocks are thrusting up from the ground. More and more Ajir are taking to the skies. |
FriendsThe Ajir proclaim peace with everyone. They have only ever launched attacks on those who attacked them, and then only surgical strikes. They are pacifist by nature, but have bred warriors in response to the original conflict with humanity all those centuries ago.
Their goal of the eradication of Avernus is the only exception they make to their pacifist policies. EnemiesTwo generations ago the Ajir fought long and hard against the residents of Avernus on another world. When the rifts closed, they had thought they were done with them forever. Unfortunately for Earth, rifts from both worlds have opened up nearly next door to each other, and the old animosity is nowhere near extinguished.
They also, for some undisclosed reason, refuse to speak to anyone who has had contact with The Eternal Dream, and have made it clear that visiting Uluru is punishable by expulsion from Eden. |
Denizens
Ajir
These could be said to be the civilians of Eden, and comprise the majority of the population. Winged avians, able to glide but not fly. They do not have innate armour or weapons. Cera These Ajir were the second offshoot from the main stock. They are heavily armoured, and although they are able to glide extremely long distances, they rely on jump jets to get them into the air as they're too heavy to lift themselves. They are typically outfitted with flaming arrows, and the jumpjets can be angled to use as close-quarters weapons. |
Keru
Keru are the guardians of the realm. Among the earliest offshoots of the Ajir, they are the ones that guarded the gate to Eden all those centuries ago. They wear bright steel armour, which remains strangely unmarred even when damaged. They are typically equipped with a shield and a flaming sword. Neph The Ajir have disposed of their wings altogether, and are so heavily armoured it would seem at first that they would be unable to move, but when they do it is lightning-fast and their hand-to-hand prowess is formidable. They are equipped with either a greatsword or two spiked shields. |
Opha
These Ajir are responsible for overwatch of the borders, and have the ability to port their brethren to them from great distances in case the need backup. They are only lightly armoured, since they are able to fly, and spend most of their time in the updrafts created by the rock formations along Eden's boundaries. Zhan These swords seem to have their own volition, and although rare, the presence of one of them on a battlefield is enough to send most enemies running. The only Ajir able to wield them are the Neph, but they will only do so as a last resort. Zhan are must quick on their own. |
