Geotakalven* did not exist before the Sky Wars. The dwarves made sure to keep themselves out of the Storm King's sight. The dwarven capital, Stalassokalven, was the only city to not suffer major losses. This meant that after the war was over, the dwarves were in a perfect position to help rebuild - and charge handsomely for it as well. To do so though, they needed to be able to interact with the other races.
With this goal, Geotakalven was founded, linked with the capital by a massive 60 mile-long tunnel. The Wayfinders - a group of workers originally set up to help others navigate Stalassokalven's citywide maze and keep the roads in good repair - set up a new chapter in Geotakalven to help with the rebuilding and guarding of the roads above ground. The dwarves are eager to take their place among the other races, and so far, their influence is being felt greatly.
* /jē · ō · tə · kăl' · vən/: The city that points north. (Scholars point out that it could also mean mining city, but as it was created specifically to be the public face of the dwarven kingdom, it is in effect 'pointing north' to the capital.)
